MEMBER SPOTLIGHT on Van Gorders’ Furniture

What Makes Van Gorders’ Furniture Unique
This place where we live is a gorgeous part of the world, and at Van Gorders’ Furniture we like to bring the outdoors inside. Unlike the tired old inventory at the typical big box stores, all three of Van Gorders’ showrooms feature a unique mix of lodge-style rustic furnishings that reflect the beauty of nature.
We seek out and bring home unique, quality furniture from far and wide – with a focus on American-made brands. This includes one-of-a-kind works from local artisans.
When you visit any of our 3 showrooms – in Milford, Honesdale and at Lake Wallenpaupack – you’ll enjoy a unique shopping experience. Most importantly, you’ll find a warm and welcoming atmosphere where honesty and straight talk are the gold standards.
Our spacious showrooms offer Sealy Mattress Galleries where customers can test out the newest Sealy Posturepedic and Stearns & Foster mattresses. The Honesdale location also features a La-Z Boy Comfort Studio with hundreds of recliners and sofas of all styles and sizes.
For many years now, Van Gorders' has been a premiere dealer of Old Hickory Furniture. If you’ve ever visited the great lodges at many of our National Parks, you’ve likely relaxed in some beautiful and sturdy Old Hickory Furniture. You’ve also probably seen these heirloom pieces in the backdrops of popular shows like Yellowstoneand Twin Peaks, helping to set an authentic scene.
Holiday Message
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and this is always a busy time at the stores. Right now, Van Gorders’ Furniture haa one hundred La-Z-Boy recliners in stock. By December 25, that number will have dwindled drastically. So please, stop by and say hi. We look forward to seeing you.
History of Van Gorders’ Furniture
It all started way back in 1936, when our great grandfather Ralph Van Gorder opened a furniture business in downtown Honesdale. A natural Dutch trader, Ralph was a born businessman and he did very well indeed. After serving in the US Navy in World War 2, Donald came home to join the family business. Full of energy, fresh ideas and ambition, Don took the store to new heights. Our grandfather transformed the The National Hotel, built in 1868, to the four-story furniture store that it is today.
Fast forward to 1978--Donald and Barbara(Grampy and Baba) opened a brand-new store at Lake Wallenpaupack. Once again, the business grew fast. Our father Scott came onboard to help his Dad. There were boom times, and there were economic downturns, but the business forged ahead.
Then, along came 2014--it's Milford time! We had dreamed of coming to Milford for a long time, and now we're here. Three stores, three brothers. We are the fourth generation, and we are determined to live up to the standards set by the generations before us. Sincerely, Derek, Dylan, and Max Van Gorder
