The Dime Bank Donated $5,000.00 to the University of Scranton

The Dime Bank donated $5,000.00 to the University of Scranton through the PA Department of Community and Economic Development’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.

The University of Scranton’s program, the University of Success, prepares underserved high school students from the local community for future college success. The program is unique to northeastern Pennsylvania and consists of two parts. A two-week summer academy provides students with an opportunity to live on campus and experience college life first-hand, while focusing on enrichment in such areas as mathematics, physics, biology, space exploration, and earth science. The summer program is followed by year-round Saturday sessions, providing information on science, math, computer science, writing, study skills, humanities, cultural diversity, college and career planning, and SAT preparation. In addition, tutoring, mentoring, college/career information, and parent programs are also offered, as those are necessary tools to assist teens who have academic potential successfully graduate high school and enroll in college.

Program Director Dr. Andrea Mantione said, “We simply could not continue to offer this innovative program without the support of community partners like The Dime Bank. Your gift helps to strengthen our community and ensure a bright future for Northeastern Pennsylvania!”
