8/28/17 - Application deadline for the Penn State Master Gardener Basic Training program in Carbon County, meeting weekly on Wednesdays, September 6 – December 13, 2017, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM, at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center, 8844 Paint Mill Rd, Slatington, PA 18080. There is a program fee of $200.00 to cover the cost of training, materials and expenses. An interview will be required. Upon acceptance into the program, a check for registration must be received prior to the first class. 9/12/17 – Adults 40 and older are invited to attend a free information session at 9:00 AM, 1:00 PM or 5:00 PM at St. Peter’s Community Center, 177 Main Road in Lehighton (Weissport), PA 18235 to learn more about the StrongWomen/Growing Stronger Program. There will be a slide presentation, a demo of some of the exercises, paperwork, and opportunity to ask questions. Light refreshments will be available.

The actual 6-week StrongWomen/Growing Stronger exercise Program, will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from October 3, 2017 through November 9, 2017 at a cost of $60. There will be 3 sessions to choose from: 9:00 – 10:00 AM, 1:00 – 2:00 PM, or 5:00 – 6:00 PM. All classes will be held at St. Peter’s Community Center. Attend the time that will work best for your schedule throughout the 6-week training.

9/16/17 – The Fall Garden Clean-up, 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Western Pocono Community Library, 131 Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville, PA 18322. Master Gardener Nancy Daniels will walk participants through the garden tasks to complete on those crisp, cool fall days to ensure a better spring garden! Preregistration is required by September 14. To preregister, please call Monroe County Penn State Extension Office, 570-421-6430, Mon. – Fri., 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Sign-in will begin at 9:45 AM. A $5 fee will be taken at the door to support the Master Gardeners of Monroe County’s efforts to provide continuing gardening education to the public.
