Fee: $25 per person; registration deadline: September 29, 2017. The grant writing and fund-raising environment is increasingly competitive. Organization and preparation matter. Obtaining grants is a process. This workshop will break that process down into workable strategies to ensure a more successful outcome. The classes consist of a nutrition lesson and 8-12 strength training exercises that help improve strength, balance, and flexibility. Cost: $60. This session will provide a shared definition of what zoning is, know where zoning is addressed in the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code and an understanding of the limits of zoning. The session will provide a basic understanding of the different zoning terms including "Conditional Use", "Special Exception", "Variance" and "Non¬conformities" as well as the roles of the various zoning administration team members in zoning. Topics include: Foundations of Zoning - What is Zoning?; Zoning in the Municipalities Planning Code; Basic Zoning Terms; Zoning Administration Team; Zoning Officer; and Zoning Hearing Board.
10/8/17 – Fun and Free Family Emergency Preparedness workshop, Sunday October 8, 2:30 – 6:00 PM, Pike County Emergency Management, 135 Pike County Blvd, Hawley, Pennsylvania 18428. Is your family truly prepared for an emergency? Do you know of the resources available in your area in the event of a disaster? Blizzards, floods, & fires are just a few of the situations your family should be prepared for. This workshop is for youth grades 3-8 and their families to learn about what to do in an emergency, how to contact authorities, and how to work together to develop a family emergency plan. In addition to the workshop and provided resources, participants will have the opportunity to tour the Training Facility, interact with local emergency services personnel and equipment, and enjoy refreshments with family and new friends. 10/14/17 – Fall, Time to Plant Garlic Workshop, Saturday October 14, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Carbon County Environmental Education Center, 151 East White Bear Drive, Summit Hill, PA 18250. This program is presented by the Carbon County Penn State Master Gardeners. Cost: $10 each adult. Learn how to prepare the soil, plant, care for and harvest garlic.
