Breastfeeding Classes at Wayne Memorial Now Offered Monthly
Expectant mothers interested in learning all there is to know about breastfeeding from an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant are encouraged to register for one of Wayne Memorial’s “Breastfeeding Your Baby” classes scheduled for the third Monday of each month. All classes are held in Wayne Memorial Hospital’s David Katz Room from 6 pm to 8 pm.
Going into 2017, Wayne Memorial had planned to run one class every other month. However, a spike in interest for breastfeeding education prompted class instructor Kara Poremba, BSN, RN, IBCLC, CCE, to double the number of sessions offered.
“I believe this is due to the increase in prenatal breastfeeding education we have done since receiving the AllOne grant,” stated Poremba, who also serves as a Healthy Beginnings Plus Coordinator at the Women’s Health Center in Honesdale, part of Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC). AllOne Foundation awarded WMCHC $30,000 for prenatal services this past December.
The next class will be held on March 20th. The full roster of dates is as follows: April 24, May 22, June 26, July 24, August 28, September 25, October 23, November 20 and December 18. Classes are open to all expectant mothers regardless of how far along they are in their pregnancy. Dad or another support person is urged to come along.
The fee is $20. However, the cost is covered for women who belong to the Healthy Beginnings Plus Program. To register or for more information, call the Women’s Health Center at 800-869-6636 or 570-253-3005.
