The Dime Bank donated $10,000.00 to GPCF and ART to support DVSD

Pike County, PA / February 8, 2017 / The Dime Bank donated $5,000.00 to the Greater Pike County Community Foundation (GPCF) and $5,000 to the American Readers Theatre (ART) by way of the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program.

Through the GPCF, the EITC Program provides significant funding for innovative educational programming enhancements in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math at Delaware Valley School District (DVSD). In 2016-2017 the funding will assist two academically advanced science-based programs utilizing digital microscopes and a science summer camp.

ART promotes literacy through the performing arts in a collaborative initiative between ART and DVSD. This year’s Writer’s Project will branch out beyond traditional writers. Fourth-grade students from Delaware Valley, Dingman-Delaware, and Shohola Elementary Schools will participate in a vibrant month-long Heartsongs Writer’s Project weaving together Language Arts, Music, Visual Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Technology. The goal of The Writer’s Project is to provide a grade-appropriate advanced academic opportunity for students of the DVDS that integrates classic literature and performing arts with required reading and core curriculum components in language arts, science, and social studies. The learning objectives of the Writer’s Project will be summarized in the final presentation to fellow students.

Executive Director Jenni Hamill of the GPCF said, "The GPCF greatly values their partnership with The Dime Bank, the DVSD, and the PA Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). Working together through the EITC program we are able to make an important contribution to the students in our area and help prepare them for successful futures. A true COMMUNITY endeavor!"

The Dime Bank is dedicated to supporting education in our school districts and to bringing the arts to our communities through the support of many different programs and venues.
