7/10/17 & 7/17/17 – ServSafe Food Safety Management Certification Course, July 10 (9:00 AM - 4:00 PM) and July 17 (9:00 AM - 11:00 AM; exam 11:00AM - 1:00 PM, 4184 Dorney Park Road, Room 108, Allentown, PA 18104. Fee: $185. This course uses the National Restaurant Association (NRA) food safety curriculum for food service establishments. Training meets the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture requirements for the Food Employee Certification Act. Pre-registration is required by July 3. 7/11/17 – Canning your Harvest (Water Bath and Pressure), 5:30 – 8:30 PM, Wayne County Extension, 648 Park Street, Honesdale, PA 18431. Cost: Adults-$5.00; Youth under 18-free. Food preservation is experiencing rejuvenation; many people are interested in growing and/or buying local foods and want to preserve them for use throughout the year. Please join Nicole McGeehan, Food Safety Educator for Penn State Extension, to learn more about the basics of canning. Topics will include equipment, how to use a boiling water bath and pressure canner, types of packs, safe methods and procedures, storage, and resources. Also, if you would like to bring your dial gauge (or lid) from your pressure canner, we will be testing them for accuracy. 7/15/17 – Creating a Water Garden, 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Western Pocono Community Library, 131 Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville, PA 18322. Imagine yourself sitting beside a water garden with the soothing sounds from a waterfall washing away the cares of the day. Turn your vision into reality in a weekend with practical, step-by-step information for creating a water feature in your backyard by Master Gardener Bonnie Vogt. Preregistration is required by July 13. To preregister, please call Monroe County Penn State Extension Office, 570-421-6430, Mon. – Fri., 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Sign-in will begin at 9:45 AM. A $5 fee will be taken at the door to support the Master Gardeners of Monroe County’s efforts to provide continuing gardening education to the public.
