Opening of Community House - Pike County Visitor’s Center and Home to Community Organizations

Posted on April 27th, 2018
The Pike County Chamber of Commerce and the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau announced today that a historic revival is nearly complete. The 1812 former residence of the Pinchot Family is again front and center in Milford and will now serve as a Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau-sanctioned, Pike County Visitors Center.

The new facility located at 201 Broad Street is already open to the public five days a week, and between Memorial Day and Columbus Day will be open seven days a week. Community funds, a LSA Grant and great effort on the part of many residents and organizations have made the new renovation and new designation possible. Pike County Commissioner Matt Osterberg said that the building “has a new life following a period of decline since the library moved across the street to its new location. It is exciting to see the old building fresh and renewed as a central place in our community.”

The historic property will also serve as home to several community organizations including the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, the Pike County Economic Development Authority, Pike County United Way, the Pike County Autism Support Center and the Greater Pike Community Foundation. The revenue from the rents from these non-profits will act a stream of income to help maintain the building’s excellent condition. Further, using the space for community organizations is part of the legacy as the building was given for community services by the Pinchot family.

Not only will the building be used as a visitor’s center but, it will be used for many planned events including community and social events. The conference room is available for not-for-profit activities, by reservation only. Further, the building solves a difficult problem of providing local area visitors with restroom facilities. The new soon-to-be completed visitor’s center will have the restroom facilities open to the public as the warmer weather will bring many visitors to Pike County. We believe the visitor’s center will be a prominent community resource that will be beneficial to our downtown businesses and all of Pike County, guiding visitors to shop and dine locally, and providing direction to businesses and services.

In phase one of the renovations, while all the structural work has been completed, some additional work remains as all displays have not yet been installed. The building owner, The Milford Community House, anticipates phase two of renovations will begin sometime next year. We’re excited that the office is fully operational and is stocked with brochures and information about local venues and sights in Pike County. Already, the building has new life; come in for a visit. If you haven’t already, please consider joining the Pike County Chamber of Commerce to be part of this new venture and contribute to the success of not only this historic building but the county you work and live in. We look forward to having you visit! For more information please do not hesitate to contact us at info@pikechamber.com or 570-296-8700.
